Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

A Frost Proof Leak Caused Widespread Water Damage to This Fayetteville Home

Most people in the area have a frost proof faucet line that runs out to the exterior of the house from the main service line and plumbing network. While these typically get insulated and weatherproofed to prevent freezing, one unfortunate homeowner in Fayetteville found out that this weatherproofing does not always work like it is supposed to.

As you can see from the video Kevin Davis has put together about the incident, our SERVPRO team got to work quickly in identifying both the problem and the full extent of the damage that the water caused to the house in the time that it was leaking. One of the first steps beyond identifying the damage was repairing the source of the water leak to prevent further damages from occurring while restoration was underway.

In this instance, the repair was necessary behind a wall in the home where this line worked its way towards the exterior of the house. Once this repair got made, our team could focus their efforts on drying out the damage and removing all of the present water. As Kevin Davis was saying, the damage affected nearly 3/4 of the house in varying degrees, so many different pieces of equipment were necessary to extract all the water and get the area thoroughly dried after that.

A weighted extractor was the tool selected for the better part of this process, as most of the affected area was carpet. This machine is a ride-on tool that uses weight to displace water trapped in the carpet fibers and padding underneath and forces it to the surface for extraction. The remainder of the restoration work was able to get accomplished using a combination of air movers and dehumidification equipment strategically placed by our SERVPRO technicians.

While the restoration work in this Fayetteville home is now complete after only three days, work in the home still has to get done. Repairs to areas like you saw in the video to access the source of the problem require attention. All in all, this project for our SERVPRO of Fayetteville / Springdale team is a testament to our experience and efficiency.
